GABRIEL’S GULLY JUBILEE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I would respectfully suggest that you give a little space in your valuable columns to remind old time gold diggers (if there be any in Hawke’s Bay who were at Gabriel’s Gully. Otago, in the 60 s) that the jubilee celebrations of this memorable and historic event are to be held at Lawrence (Otago), on May 20th, and that the Government are issuing free railway passes to these old miners. Also that those who have the carrying out of the festivities are paying the expenses of the week’s stay at Lawrence as far as funds will permit. The “Otago Witness” is making a praiseworthy effort to make the celebrations of this memorable event worthy of the occasion and I think you will consider the subject well worth a little space. What a grand meeting it will be for these stalwart old pioneers to meet once again after fifty years and chat about old times. Thanking you in anticipation.—l am, etc.. A WELLWISHER. Hastings. 6th May. 1911.
