z Masterton, May 1. The eight-year-old daughter of Mrs. E. Jacobsen, of Mauriceville, w T as severely burnt about the body on Saturday through her clothes taking fire. Her injuries are not expected to end seriously, though she is still suffering from shock.
BOY KILLED BY LIFT.
Auckland, May 1
While in the act of peering down a lift-well from the second floor of Smith and Caughey’s drapers’ establishment this afternoon, William Brewer, aged 16, of Grey Lynn, employed as a parcel boy, was struck on the head by the descending lift and killed instantaneously. The entrance to the left, which was used for the conveyance of parcels, was only guarded by one bar.
GREASER FALLS INTO HARBOUR.
Auckland, May 2. G. Edbrooke, greaser on the steamer Paparoa, when going aboard last night slipped from the gangway and fell into the harbour. He was drowned. It is believed he was a married man hailing from Bristol.
