COLONIAL SUGAR COMPANY.
A PROFITABLE YEAR.
STAT# COMPETITION ANTI-
CIPATED.
(Received 29, 9.10 a.m.) Sydney, April 29.
The half-yearly meeting of the Colonial Sugar Company report showed a profit of £207,428. A division of ten per centum was passed and £77,613 was carried forward.
Mr. Kater, chairman, stated that the Commissioner appointed by the Queensland Government advised the erection of three additional centre mills by the State and the Government declared the recommendations had their support. Owing to such over-development of the industry, some loss may be expected in the next four years. Referring to the recent statement made by Mr. Hughes, that the company refuses to supply shopkeepers if they sold imported sugar, Mr. Kater declared the company would supply anybody able to pay.
