London, April 28.
Questioned regarding the appointment of Sir E.' J. Soares to office, the Financial Secretary to the Treasury, Mr. Hobhouse, replied suggesting that Mr. Norman Craig, who asked tne question, possibly despised education, and added that Sir E. Soares was a firstclass prizeman of his college. Perhaps Mr. Craig despised that also. The Speaker, interposing, deprecated offensive allusions, and censured Mr. Hobhouse for going out of the Way to suggest that Mr. 'Craig did not appreciate intellect or knowledge. Mr. Hobhouse: “I only judged by his demeanour.” The Speaker retorted severely, saying that again Mr. Hobhouse was using unnecessarily offensive expressions.
