W.C.T.U.

NAPIER BRANCH. In St. Paul’s Schoolroom. Napier, yesterday afternoon, the usual fortnightly meeting of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union was held. Mrs. Archer, in the absence of Mrs. Oldham, presided over a fair attendance. Two ladies were nominated for seats on the District School Committee. After other formal business had been transacted, the reports of the recent conventions at New Plymouth and Paki Paki were read. Mrs. Clatworthy, in a long and interesting account of the New Plymouth Convention showed by a comparison of figures how greatly the different branches of the Union had gained numerically. Miss McNeish read the Paki Paki report. Both ladies were thanked for their able and interesting reports. Mrs. Israel, who will shortly be leaving this district for Nelson, and who has for the past nine and ahalf years been an active member of the union, holding various important offices, resigned her position. The resignation was received with regret and it was resolved to place on record the valuable services which Mrs. Israel nad rendered to the Napier branch of the union. Mrs. Israel, in reply, said that she was extremely sorry to have to leave those with whom her work had brought her into contact, and she thanked the members heartily for their good wishes. A vote of thanks to the chair concluded the business.
