NAPIER MAGISTRATE’S COURT.

(Before Mr. S. E. McCarthy, S.M.) WITHOUT LIGHTS. George Codlin, for riding a bicycle on the Clive-Napier road at 6.45 p.m. on March 26th without a light, was fined 30/- and costs. J. Craigie and Andrew Anderson, for a similar offence -within the borough, were fined 30/- and costs 7/-.

ALLEGED THEFT. Isobella Kemp was charged with the theft of various articles, the property of her employer, Captain Todd. Accused pleaded guilty, and was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon, the Salvation Army captain agreeing to keep an eye upon her. ACSAULT. The case against A. Fergusson, charged with assault and attempted rape, was further remanded until Thursday. Joseph Gannon, who has already made several appearances at the Court during the past week, was again charged this morning with (1) drunkenness, (2) procuring liquor during the currency of a prohibition order against him, (3) using obscene language, (4) damaging a ’bus window to the value of £l. The man was evidently in a condition of mental derangement either from drink or other causes, and he was remanded for a week for medical observation.
