ENTERTAINMENTS.
THOMPSON-PAYNE PICTURES NAPIER. The picture Theatre on Saturday evening was filled to overflowing. All seats were occupied long before the performance commenced, and after 8 o’clock standing room was scarcely obtainable. The films were excellent, amongst the best being “A Voyage on the Nile,” and the “Salsbourg Lakes.” The latter picture showed scenes in the little town of Salsbourg. “The Hole, in the Wall,” the work according to tradition of St. Segismond, and the chapels and cells hewed in the living rock 430 A.D., were two most interesting scenes. “A Fight for Afillions,” “Arizona Romance,” “The Buffoons,” “Khamar.” and the “Law of the West” were admirable and exciting dramas. The comic element was very large. “The Coster’s Phantom Fortune.” “Jones’ Card Party,” “Davy Jones and Capt. Bragg,” "The Darling’s Confusion,” and C'alino as a Prince” kept, the audience in a state of uncontrollable laughter. During the entertainment the Gaiety Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Bagstrom, rendered very appropriate selections.
Some slides showing the recent exhibition of the rnuch-talked-of harem skirt in Napier were received with great enthusiasm.
