FAREWELL SOCIAL.

PRESENTATION TO REV. A. C. LA WRY. The schoolroom of the Trinity Wesleyan Church. Napier, was filled to overflowing last evening, the occasion being a farewell social to the Rev. A. C. Lawry and Mrs. Lawry, who are shortly leaving Napier for Auckland, where Mr. Lawry has accepted a call. Mr. J. H. Oldham was the Chairman of the gath- ■ ering and speeches w-ere made by the Mayor (Mr. J. Vigor Brown, M.P.), the Rev. J. A. Asher (who spoke on behalf of tne ministers for the city), Mr. A. Williams (on behalf of the. Trinity Church members), Mr. G. Venables (for the local preachers), Mr. Willis (for the Greenmeadows Church), Mr. F. Jackson (for Wesley Hall), and Miss Mitchell (for Westshore Church members). The Mayor paid an eulogistic tribute, to Mr. Lawry’s work as a minister and spoke of his personal friendship for him. The Rev. J. A. Asher spoke of his association with Mr. Lawry as a minister and of the good work Mr. Lawry had accomplished in Napier. A. number of pleasing musical items were contributed. A piano duet was played by Mr. and Mrs. C. Prime, Mr. C. R. Spackman played a violin solo, and songs were con- 8 Lributed by Mrs. Brook, Mr. H. E. Jones and Mr. Davie. The presentation to Mr. Lawry of a knee-hole writing desk, on behalf of the members and adherents, of the church in Napier circuit, was made by thm. chairman and in response Mr. Lawry spoke lengthily of his work and of the friends made in the Trim ity Church, and his gratitude 'or the token of good feeling given him. Towards the close of the evening refreshments were nanded round. Votes of thanks were passed to the speakers and officers, and the social was Lr ught to a close with the singing by the assembly of the hymn “God be with you till we meet again.” <
