EGG-LAYING TESTS.

VALUABLE DATA SECURED.

(Received 3, 10.30 a.m.) Sydney, April 3.

Another year’s egg-laying tests have been completed at HaWkesbury College. Six hundred hens of various ages gave a net profit of £221 ; a hundred and fifty ducks gave a profit of £3B. For the first time, accurate data has been secured of third-year laying hens. Black Orpingtons and Langshans proved themselves-the best third-year layers, returning a net profit of six shillings per bird. The Government expert reports it is generally thought third-year layers do not become unfruitful, but there is no reason to doubt they become unprofitable.
