HASTINGS MAYORALTY.

Hostilities in connection with the election campaign for the mayoralty of Hastings commenced last evening. Mr. T. J. Thompson and Mr. James Garnett had successful meetings, and the contest promises to be a keen one.

About forty persons attended the meeting in the Council Chambers in support of Mr. Garnett’s candidature, Mr. J. Hiron presiding. A strong committee was formed, and a plan of campaign decided on.

Mr. F. J. W. Gascoyne' occupied the chair at the meeting of Mr. Thompson's supporters in the Old Library. There was a large attendance. Various sub committees were appointed, and the meeting was an enthusiastic one.

Mr. Thompson was present, and promised to address the electors at an early date.
