MAN OVERBOARD.
AND NOT SEEN AGAIN.
Wellington, Mar. 31.
Captain Aslaksen, of the Norwegian barque Glenshee, which put in at Wellington late last night, bound from Melbourne to Falmouth, reports that on the run across two of his crew were washed overboard, one of them, a sailor named Mardelles, being drowned. The accident happened on March 15th, when the vessel was running past Bass Strait in heavy weather. The two were sent into the rigging, and while engaged there a tremendous sea struck the ship and washed both overboard. One fell over the lee side and was able to grasp a rope thrown out by the captain. He was then hauled on board. Mardelles, who fen on. the other side of the barque, was never seen again. Lifebuoys were thrown overboard, but the sea was too heavy to enable the lifeboats to be launched.
