CENTRAL HAWKE’S BAY SHEEP DOG TRIALS.
About 250 people, including many, ladies, found ;heir way to Mr. P. Dolbel’s estate, Taradale, where the Central H.B. Dog Trial Club held their annual xueeting under the most favourable conditions. The first item in the competition, “Heading and bringing back to yard three sheep, distance 600yds,” was started at 8 a.m. yesterday, punctually, but owing to the number of entries the competition was not finished until to-day at 1'0.30 a.m. Owing to some other sheep getting boxed with those in one trial, Mr. W. J. Fleming’s dog Watt was given anothe* chance to retrieve his position. . Mr. D. Me Donald) (Dannevirke; was judge, and everything went on favourably under the management of the efficient and energetic secretary, Mr. W. W, McKinnon. Owing to the non-attendance of Mr. P. Dolbel who was indisposed, Mr. M. Haw kin'’, head shepherd on the estate, gave an exhibition with Mr. Doi dog Speed. After the trial he was given hearty rounds of applause for the capable manner in which he worked the dog. Mr. W. A*hyte also received great applause for his exhibition wltir his dog “Boy.” The secretary was ably assisted by Messrs. R. Davidson, H. Douglas, and P. McDonald, ground committee; also Messrs. C. W Davis (timekeeper), J. Palmer, A. O Dowd, R. Neagle, T. H. Moynihan, L. Lopdell, W. White and others of the general committee Results:—
Heading and bringing back into rmg.—M. Whyte’s Boy, 28 points, ] and special gold medal; P. McDonald’s Meg, 25 points, 2; A M°o-’e’s Fan, 24 points, 3; D. Me Donald s Tweed, 23 points, 4 • W Wet, 22 joints, 5. Mr. D. McDonald, Dannevirke the judge, stated that although the entries were larger than any previous year, the -work of the dogs waned up to the standard, excepting those m the placed division. Special be made in the c ase of Mr. W. Whyte’s dog “Boy,” who gave one of the best exhibitions that the judge had seen. Thanks are due to the trustees of the late J.
