Mr. H. B. Lusk was a passenger to Dannevirke this morning.
The Council of the Royal Geographical Society has nominated Lord Curzon President.
A despatch has been received notifying that the King wishes his birthday to be officially celebrated on the natural dati, June 3rd. Mr. H. Schluter, of Oamaru, who has been visiting Mr. and Mrs. W. Hart, of Hastings, left for Auckland this morning. The Hon. A. T. Ngata arrived from Gisborne by steamer this morning and left by the mail train for "Wellington.
Mr. Given S. McLeod, of the Napier Court’s clerical staff, is acting as second clerk at the Hastings’ Court for two months. Mr. H. D. Stronach and ?,L’ss Stronach, df Dunedin, are at present in Napier, visiting Mr. F. Stronach, who has been removed to the Napier Hospital. Mr. W. Lynch, of the Hastings firm of Lynch and Sons, leaves on a trip to the Old Country on Tuesday next to visit Les native downs in Surrey.
Lieut.-Colonel A. H. Russel has been appointed to command the Mounted Brigade of the Wellington District under the new Defence Act. The appointment is for four years from March 17, 1911.
Mr. W. D. *Lysnar, Mayor of Gisborne, arrived in Napier this morning in connection with the recent committees established in regard to having better arrangements for handling frozen produce. He proceeds to Wellington, Feilding, and Palmerston North on the same business.
The Hon. R. McKenzie left for the South by the Maori on Tuesday. He is to open the Waiau road and railway bridge on the feonth Island Main Trunk line to-day. The Hon. T. Mackenzie is at New Plymouth. The Hon. G. Fowlds returned to Wellington from the Soutji yesterday.
Mr. Harold Armstrong, for some years assistant secretary at the Sydney Y.M.C.A.. and working there under the popular and wellknown J. J. Virgo, will arrive in Hastings on Monday. April 10th. to commence duties here as assistant organising secretary, and will prepare the ground for a great campaign that is expected to be launched in May or June. A welcome social v» HI be extended to him on Wednesday. April 12tb, in St. Matthew’s Hall, details of which will appear later. Mr. Frank Taylor, of the Daily Telegraph’s monoline staff, was last night presented by his fellow workers with a handsome dinner service and a set of jugs on the eve of his marriage. Mr. J. N. McDougall. the editor, made the presentation and expressed the respect and esteem in which Mr. Taylor was held by the staff. He wished Mr. Taylor and his wife-elect the best of happiness. The recipient suitably responded. He left by the express train this morning for the Bluff where the ceremony is to take place.
