“THE MANSIONS.”
NOT OF THE BLEST. Auckland, Mar. 22. At the Police Court, Jean Carter, proprietress of ‘The Mansions,” one of the largest boarding houses in Auckland, was nnrg ad on two informations of selling liquor without a license. It '.as admitted that the boarders w«re supplied with liquor by Mr->. Carter, for which they paid cash. '1 wo constables were also supplied. This was followed by a police rai 1. when 195 bottles of beer and stout, and a quantity of wine were found on the premises. It was admit ted that the proprietress was a respectable woman, and that her house was well conducted.
He was pleased that there were none of the usual elements of slygrog selling, but Mr. Cutten, S.M., added that there had been a verv palpable breach of the law. and he imposed the maximum penalty of £5O on one charge, dismissed the second charge, and ordered the liquor seized to be destroyed.
