BARTON’S CIRCUS.
There will be a grand opening programme at Barton’s Circus, opposite the Fire Brigade Station this evening. The troupe, which arrived in Hastings by road this morning, is one of the largest in New Zealand, consisting of over 60 head of horses, etc., and a large staff of acrobats, rough riders, tumblers, and other star artists, and is headed by Capt. McCloud (late of Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show), and Black Albert (the Australian full-blooded aboriginal), who is said to be a marvel of horsemanship and issues a challenge to local riders. There are a host of other novelties, including performing dogs, monkeys, horses, etc. The Flying Tybells are magnificent aerial gymnasts anti iron-jaw marvels. Jack Tvbell, the dare-devil gymnast will make a sensational slide from the top of the tent to the street below, supporting the weight of his body by his teech. People will be able to see this daring performance without paying for admission.
