THE MEAT TRUST.
NO FOOTHOLD IN AUSTRALIA
[PRESS ASSOCIATION. —COPYRIGHT. I
(Received 7, 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, Mar. 7.
Mr. Trefle, Honorary Minister, will not believe the Meat Trust is, able to obtain a footing in Australia as in America, because the State Governments are hostile, and the Trust would never be able to obtain preferential treatment in the carriage of goods on railways against' the isolated settler. Even if the Trust became established, *t would be a simple matter for Government to step in and handle produce from co-operative works. The Trust would have a hopeless struggle against the combined power of the people and the Go-; vernment. He did not think, withi a Federal Labour Government irii power and State Parliaments ra-j pidly getting into the ' hands of j the Labour Party, that Australia! would be regarded as a suitable | place for the Trust’s operations;! nevertheless, it behoves everybody; to back up efforts to prevent the; Trust from playing ducks and! drakes with producers’ interests.,
