THE COAL VEND
t AND THE PRICE OF COAL, j (Received 28, 9.50 a.m.) Sydney, Feb. 28. * A meeting of the Northern Colliery proprietors discussed the dissolution of the Coal Vend. Mr. Edden, Minister of Mines, states that, although he believes the object of sending prosecutions by the Federal Government is to crush the vend, he hoped dissolu- i t ion would not be brought about. ‘ It was questionable if the collier-1 ies of Newcastle proper would be able to carry on without an agreement or the selling rate being doubled. The wisdom of a reduced selling-rate is that it means the winning-back of trade. He thinks proprietors would have lost their reason if they again reduced selling prices to 7/6 per ton.
