SUPREME COURT.
(Before His Honour Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice.)
DIVORCE CASES.
In chambers this morning the Chief Justice took the case of Minnie Broci? 7. Henry Brock and issued a decree absolute, giving the wife custody of the child. Mr. Lusk appeared for the petitioner, and there was no defence. In the case of Nellie Burnett O’Rielly v, Edward O’Rielly, a decree absolute was also granted and the wife given custody of the child. Mr. Lusk appeared for the petitioner.
Evidence was taken in the case of Edith M. J. Bruce v. David S. Bruce, wife’s petition on the grounds of desertion and adultery. Evidence was given by the wife, S. Frail, private detective, and James Flemming. The parties were married on July 12th, 1904, and there was an issue of two children. The husband neglected his wife and failed to properly support her, and eventually left her altogether in 1909. Mrs. Bruce lived at Tongoio and other places, and eventually employed an enquiry agent (Free) to watch Bruce. In October last Free watched Bruce and detected him in misconduct at Dannevirke.
Mr. Lusk appeared for the petitioning wife and the husband was unrepresented.
The decision of the Court will be given to-morrow on the formal opening of the Court. Later, His Honour transacted a quantity of other Chamber business.
