At yesterday’s meeting of the Hawke’s Bay County Council the two recent cases of typhoid which occurred at Petane were mention-ed.—-Cr. G. P. Donnelly suggested that the council should write to the Native Department and see whether more Native nurses were not available. —Cr. W. Shrimpton said that the Board of Health was supposed to deal with the sources of infection as well as the disease, and he considered that such cases as those referred to should be absolutely under their control. The Health Department should be the supreme power and no Native Department should have anything to do with it. The sooner there was one health officer dealing with these matters the better. The cases should not have remained where they had. They could not overcome prejudice, but the example strengthened their action in supporting the appointment of a health officer.
