At Te Awamutu George Washington Long was charged with the attempted murder of Thus. Higginson Bond, at Wharepuhanga. <>.i February 2. It uas reported that Bond had sold his farm and ha i not been seen since Wednesday. A warrant was issued for Bond s arrest, - Long being admitted t o bail, self in £l<m> and two sureties in £5O each. It was alleged for the defence that Bond had seriously assaulted Long’s wife, that the shot was fired to induce Bond to shoot Long, and that if Lonehad wished he could have caused his shot to be fatal.
