DISAPPOINTED SUITOR. (Received 10. 9.25 a.m.) Melbourne, Feb. 10. A man named Polley, at East Footscray, fired a gun at a girl named Biddle, who had refused his offer of marriage. He missed his aim, and then blew out his own brains. Since the girl’s refusal he had several times threatened to commit suicide. A SURE CURE. (Received 10, 10.25 a.m.) Sydney, Feb. 10. A man suffering from cold took two teaspoonfuls of Cayene pepper as a sure cure. It caused his throat to close, and he was asphyxiated.
