PRIZE RIFLE SHOOTING,.

The firing for the General Government Prizes at Blenheim and Picton, took place on the 20th and 23rd, and resulted in the six highest scoring two thirties, one twentyeight, one twenty-six, and two twenty-fives. The Lyttelton Times of the 2nd instant says : —Yesterday the Lyttelton Volunteers fired for the Government Prizes at the range at Sumner. There were only twelve competitors. The firing was at 300, 400, and 500 yards, five rounds at each distance. The points scored were —Aynsley, 25; Legett, 22 ; Willcox, 13; Westall, 12.” Nos., 5. and 6 Companies of the Wellington Militia have fired for the Government Prizes; the highest score was 26. The other companies and the Volunteers had still to fire.

Volunteer Prize Shooting at Nelson. —The scores made by Voluuters, firing for the General Government prizes, are as follows ;—W. Whitehorn, 32 ; Lieutenant G-eurin, 23 ; M. Hornman, 18; Captain Hornemau, 17 ; F. Rose, 17 ; C. AVise, 17 ; J. Saxon, 16 ; N. Hornemau, 14; Sergeant G. Rutherford, 36 ; James Rutherford, 30 ; Captain Perryman, 27 ; E. Harrison, 27; Andrew Rutherford, 23 ; J. Rennell, 17 ; Job Lines, 16. AVaimea AVest Company,— The firing of this Company took place on Friday last, when the following were the highest scores obtained :—J. Tomlinson, 30 ; E. Thomas, 27 ; AV. Kent, 27; H. Russ, 24 ; D. Ford, 23 ;G. Thorburne, 21; AY. Price, 20 ;F. Blundell, 20 ; James Thomas, 18 ; F. Ford, 16 ; Charles Tomlinson, 16; R, Thompson 14. The Government Prizes fired for by the Marlborough rangers at Blenheim & Pictou on the 20th and 23rd of May, are as follows; —Jas. Fuller, 30; A. Carkeek, 30 ; AV. Esson, 28; H. M’Cormick, 26; T. Gledhill, 25 ;J. Rutherford, 25: AV. Pudi 24; R. H. Newth, 23 ; AV. Neal, 23 ; °J. M : Hartney, 21; J. Miller, 18 ; C. Rumble, 18 ; J. Proctor, 18; Capt. Baillie, 16 ; N. Griffiths, 16; H. Norgrove, 16 ;H. Godsiff, 15 ;J. M’Allister, 14; T. Cary, 11. The attendance at both Blenheim and Picton was not nearly so good as might have been expected. But as many members were,away on the diggings and others from various causes could not be present, the muster was considered to be tolerably good. Mr. Carkee (Blenheim), and Mr. Fuller (Picton), carried off the highest score, each marking 30. Mr. Mason (28) won the next. The firing was considered as rather above the average. The shooting for the Government Prizes, by a portion of the Nelson City Company, took place on the 23rd of May, the scores are as follows: —J. T. Catley, 33 ; J. Aiken, 30; H. Lewis, 27; AV. Morrison, 26 ; J.'Connell, 23 ; AV. Alborough, 20 ; A. Elliot, 20 ; M. Sinclair, 12 ; H. Brew, 15; J. Shand, 12.

Auckland Prize Firing.—Yesterday, May 19, was the turn of the Ist Class Auckland Militia to compete for the prizes for rifle shooting offered by the General Government. Only six men availed themselves of the opportunity, and they went up to the shooting ground under Captain Taylor. The weather fortunately was propitious. They each shot fifteen rounds, and thirty-one was the highest score made. The following are the scores :—J. Barren, 28; Sergeant Handling, 28 ; Servant O’Farrell, 31 ; A. Clinch, 2; J. Bean, 0. The remaining competitor, whose name we have not been able to obtain, made 9. Southern Cross.

Wellington.—Sergeant Brawn Hunt, of the Masterton Volunteers, has made 30 pts. for the General Government prizes. The highest score made by the Karori Militia was 23.
