WELLINGTON RACING CLUB. [PRESS ASSOCIATION.] WELLINGTON, Friday. The Wellington Racing Club enjoyed a beautiful afternoon for the opening of the summer meeting. There was an attendance estimated at fully 6000. Speculation was fairly brisk, £13,701 going through the machine, as against £13,937 for the first day last year. Results ! Anniversary Handicap, 1 mile.— Livonia, 7st 61b, (W. Lloyd), 1; Rawiri, Bst 111b, 2; Secret Society, Bst 121b. 3. Also ran—Magnificent, Lolah, Wind, Freeland, The Guesser, and Benefactor. Won comfortably by a length and a halt. Time Imin 42 3-ssec. Dividends £8 18s and 19s.

Ruapehu Hack Handicap, 6 furlongs.—lmmersion, Bst 91b jJerikiris), 1; Replete, 7sl 12lb, 2; Delight, 7st oil), 3. Also ran—Catspaw. Trent, Waikakaho, Waitoti, St. Winifred, Whangamomona, auber, Torbrina, Won by two lengths. Time Imin 17 3-ssec. Dividends £3 5s and £2 19s.

Wellington Cup, of 600 sovs; 1J mile.—Mr J. B. Reid’s ch c Gladsome, by Seaton Delaval—Miss Gladys, 3yrs, Bst 51b (F. Jones), 1; Convoy. 7st 61b (carried 7st 91b), 2; Cannie Chiel, 7st 121b, 3. Also ran—Canteen, Bst 121b, Float. 7st; Ghoorka, fist 121b; Delarey, fist 71b. Once the field turned for home Convoy's chances were loudly proclaimed, but outside the distance Gladsome came with a great rattle, and settling tile leaders without apparent effort won easily by three or four lengths, with Cannite Chiel close up, and Ghoorka beaten by a neck for third place. Canteen finished next to last. Time 2min 33 3-ssec, which is a record for the colonies. Dividends £8 18s and £1 19.

Wellesley Stakes, for two-year-olds; 4 furlongs.—Silkworm, Bst7lb (Hewitt), 1; Stronghold. Bst 71b. 2; Te Whaenga, Bst 21b. 3. Won in hollow fashion by a dozen lengths. Time 49 2-Ssec. Dividend £1 3s.

Electric Handicap, 5 furlongs.—Brave Heart. 7st 91b (Hewitt), 1; Bounce, fist 10ib, 2; Ostiak. 9st 41b, 3. Also ran Maluku and The Ganger. Won comfortably by a length and a half. Time Imin 3sec. Dividend £3 Is fid.

Ballarat and Goldden Vein fought out a good finish, the former winning by almost a length, Pure Silver, who came fast in the straight, close up to second horse. Time Imin Ifisec.
