[press association/) NELSON, Tuesday. • The annual conference of the New Zealand Educational Institute opened at Nelson to-day, Mr B/Hughes, 8.A., Christchurch, presiding. In the afternoon the delegates were formally welcomed by the Alayor, Mr Graham, M-H.R., Mr Talbot (Chairman of the Education Board), - and Hr Strachan (Inspector of Schools). The Chairman delivered an address. The following resolutions were carried : That last year’s Napier resolution as to uniform regulations for the appointment and promotion of teachers is still necessary, and the institute suggests that a conference of Education Boards, Inspectors, and teachers be called by the Inspector-General. That the resolution that primary teachers be given power to elect on© member not a teacher to Education Boards be reaffirmed. That the institute urge on the Government the necessity of offering greater inducement to young men to enter the leaching profession. On the motion of Mr W. Clark, seconded by Mr A. Wyllie, it was resolved, “That remit No. 1, regarding the syllabus, be referred to a committee for consideration and report, the committee to consist of Misses M'Hhone and Bellamy, Messrs J. Johnson, Newton, Jackson, Eudey, Sfaerrock, L. Watson, Gibbs. Caughley, Aitken, Barnett, Henderson, MacMorran, Holmes, J. Law, and the mover.” It was also resolved that remits regarding the constitution of the institute be referred to a committee-
