[fbom oue own oobbespondent.] October 27, 1900. Another slight shook of earthquake was experienced here at 12.20 yesterday. Mies Scrimgeour has been presented with a handsome gold broooh, in the shape of a Bword, by the "Huia " Contingent, Ladies' Khaki Corps. The presentation was made by Captain Tansley, and Miss Sorimgeour suitably responded. Oar local knights of the willow begin operations on Wedneod&y next. For the ensuing cricket season the following officers of the Danevirke Crloket Club have been appointed, viz. : — Patron, Mr G. Hunter ; president, Mr M. Henderson ; vice-presidents, Maaaro J. Halligan, J. Drummond, H. D. Knight, and W. H. Hartgillj captain, Mr J. Down; vicecaptain, Mr A. Pawson ; secretary, Mr H. D. Knjght; treasurer, Mr G. Biokford. Several trophies have been presented for compel' 011 d» rin g the season. Golf for the 2?ason is now over, the grass having grown too long to enable play to be further indulged in. Before next season it is intended to have links laid off on a more suitable piece of ground. The Umutaoroa people are organising an entertainment for the purpose of furnishing the Publio Hall, which haa pioved such a convenience for meetings, concerts, and sooials during the winter months. A farce will be acted, and a sooial evening of interest may be counted upon.
