AN EXPLANATION.

Sib,— Aa your report of the meeting ol the Taradale Town Board on Saturday oonveys tha impression that I resigned my position on that Board beoauße I was not eleotea chairman, I would ask yon ti insert the accompanying letter to the Board, whioh will show that I resigned because I felt that for reasons explained therein it would be impossible for me to work in harmony with the Board's ohairman.—l am, &0., Geobge Kidley. Taradale, Ootober 29th, 1900. To the Chairman of the Taradale Town Board.— Sir,— l hereby tender my resignation as a member of the Taradale Town Board. At the last meeting of the late Board Mr Waterhouse referred in a flattering way to my services as chairman, declaring he would do all in hi; power to have me re-elected as ohairmai of the new Board if it should be constituted in the same way. The new Board is to all intents and purposes the old Board returned. Yet Mr Waterhoune allowed himself to be nominated in opposition to me. I would be the last to den; his right to aot as he has done if he had not pledged himself to snpport my claims. But considering the pledge and all the oircumstancea, I feel that I have been brioked and deoeived, and all the members who heard the pledge given must; admit that my feelings are not unreasonable. At any rate it is not in my power to submit to such treatment and aot in harmony with the present chairman after what has occurred. Thinking over the matter quietly I have decided that -the only course is to retire.— l am, &c, Qkokqe Ridley.
