DANEVIRKE.

[from our own correspondent.] July 14, 1900. The bazaar in connection with St. John's Church was largely attended this evening, the Btall-holders and refreshment attendants being kept very busy. Nearly all of the goods and fancy articles were disposed of, and the result of the whole must be gratifying to those who have devoted so much time and attention to the work, as I understand the net resnlt will show a surplus of something approaohing .8100. At the certificate examination of nurses in connection with the* Wellington hospital, Miss Lizzie Guy, of Danevirke, has been successful in obtaining second honors. At a special meeting of the Borough Council it was decided to oall for applications for the position of Town Clerk and valuer for the Borough separately, the salaries to be iJI6O and .£ls respectively. A resolution was carried accepting Mr Thomson's resignation, and it was further resolved to minute the satisfaction of the Council with the work done by the late Town Clerk. No doubt there will be numerous applications for the vacant positions. Mr H. Parata, son of the M.H.8., has been in Danevirke on a tour of inspection of Maori paliß and dwellings, advising with the natives on matters sanitary. He has visited Tahoraite, and takes this opportunity of instructing the natives on the measure of local government intended to be conferred upon them. Pollard's Company has arranged to revisit us on Ist October, whioh is pretty conclusive proof their first appearance a few months baok must have been remunerative,
