QUEENSLAND POLITICS.
THE GOVERNOR'S SPEECH. Boceived July lG f 11 p.m. Bbisbanb, Monday. Mr Dawson has resigned the leadership of the Labor party, owing to ill-health. Mr W. Brown succeeds him. Parliament opens at noon to-morrow, The Governor's Speech is to the effect that the lessons to be learned from the situations in Africa and China point to the necessity of maintaining efficient defences. Eeference will be made to the approaohing construction of the Pacific cable and regrets as to the serious results of the plague and drought. Legislation will be introduced which, while making due provision for the requirements of agricultural and grazing farmers, will assure continual occupation of the whole public estate. The amount of loan money available for railways and public works is very limited, but a list of the lines likely to prove most payable will be submitted. Bills to amend the land laws and early dosing will be introduced. Mr Glassey was re-eleoted for Bundaberg as an Independent by a two to one majority, after a bitter contest with the Labor candidate.
