STRAY CATTLE NUISANCE AT HASTINGS.
Sib, — I see by your issue this morning Cr. Murdoch still keeps pounding away ait his pet hobby, and if things are as he would have us infer from his letter this morning, that the respectable portion of the burgesses are with him, I wonld suggest that he Bhould stand for re-election, for whatever Cr. Murdoch's opinion may be, I will maintain that a very large portion of the burgesses are respeotable, and will even go as far as to assert the largest proportion of them are. These, with the assistance of property owners from Napier, for whom he has co much sympathy, also assisted by the local paper, should secure him an overwhelmning majority, and by' maintaining his position in the Council be some assistance to his numerous friends. Come, Cr. Murdooh, show a little of that British pluok you love so dearly to talk about, in plaoe of following the rather contemptible maxim of " He who fights and runs away," &c— l am, &0., W.E.K. Hastings, July IG, 1000.
