The general fund is the largest in New Zealand, being £10,000, invested, and bearing 5 per cent. The membership has doubled in five years. Mr George H. Powley has been appointed delegate to the A.M.C., England, May, 1900. The North Auckland Farmers' Union is being organised to secure better prices for produce and fruit. Chbistchubch, Thursday. A Chinaman, Kin Kung, living with his brother, a market gardener, at Spreydon, shot himself through the chest early this morning. In the case against Dr. De Kenzie, the verdict was for the defendant. Dunedin, Thursday. Armit, the injured footballer, had a slight relapse to-day, but had recovered somewhat in the evening, though his case is still critical. The Auckland footballers arrived this evening, having made a very rapid trip down. They were welcomed by the union officials. The Vincent Dredging Company has declared a dividend of 2s 6d per share. The Mayor telegraped to the Premier to-day at the request of a deputation of Jewißh residents, pointing out that the Munioipal elections fell on the Day of Atonement, and asking if anything could be done by extending the hour of polling, or in some other way,
