QUEEN'S FUND.

The annual meeting of subscribers to the above fund was. held in the Council Chamber yeaterday. The Mayor (Mr G. H. Swan) occupied the chair. Tbe committee presented the report for the year whioh ended March 31st, as follows : —

Tour committee, in submitting the accounts of the hon. treasurer (Miss Sidey), beg to congratulate subscribers on the continued success of the society, and the good that is being done in assisting the Bick and poor. All grants voted are previously reviewed by your committee, and great care is taken in the administration of the funds at their dispbsal. It will be seen Irom the accounts of the hon. treasurer that £112 12s 6d has been expended in relief to the sick and distressed in Napier and country distriots, as against £119 9s 6d for 1898, and £105 18s for 1897. The subscriptions received during the past year amounted to £68 9s 6d, as against £52 Ifis 8d for 1898, and £72 8s 5d for 1897. In conclusion, your committee wish to bring the claims of this society to the notice of the generous public of Napier and the country districts, and will ba glad to receive the names of those persons who will subscribe at least 6s per annnm, which small amount is within the means of a very large number of persons who are now non-subscribers.

The Mayor, moving the adoption of the report, spoke in eulogistic terms of the work done by the society and its executive. No doubt the granting of old age pensions would to come extent relieve the demand for aid from such institu-' tions, but there would be still ample scope for such work as that undertaken by the Queen's Fund, and he trusted that it would receivo that generous support from the public which the self-sacrificing efforts of the executive merited.

Mrs Coleman seconded the motion, which was carried.

The, election of officers resulted as folloi/s : — President, Mrs Coleman ■ treasurer, Miss Sidey ; secretary, Mrs Jardine; committee, Mesdames Hindmarsh, Davidson, Jardine, Tabuteau, Cornford, S. Williams, G. H. Swan, Ormond, Faulknor, Cohen, Murray, Pasley, W. R. Eussell, Hovell, Taylor, and Miss Sidey. Mr J. B. Fielder was re-appointed auditor and was accorded a hearty vote of thanks for his services.

On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Fielder, a voto of thanks was passed on behalf of the Charitable Aid Board and the general public, to the ladies for the work which thoy were doing in relieving distress. The meeting then udjourned.
