Beef. — 240 head proved too much for the trade, and there was a drop of fully ( 10s per head. Sixteen bullocks from the North Island brought from .£8 5s to .£9 ss, Canterbury steei'3 £5 to £8, heifere - J33 10s to £6 15s, cows £2 to £5 10s. Per 1001 b: Prime beef 17s to 18s 6d, medium . to good 15s to 16s, inferior down to 12s. Heavy yarding of fat sheep. All classes were well represented. Export !_ buyers competed freely, and last week's rates were well maintained. Butchers' sheep were irregular, too many in, but f( prices were fairly maintained until nearly o the close. Freezers 12s 6d to 15s, unfinished wethers and maiden ewes lis to 12s, best butchers' ewes 12s to 13s, medium to good do 9s to lis, and others down to 6s. A record entry of fat lambs, 4160 coming to hand. Better sorts well forward ; export at from lis to 13s, butchers' 8s 6d to 10s 6d, and unfinished lots down _. to Is. { A large and mixed entry of store sheep. There was keen competition in all classes. A good clearance was made of wethers 9s 7d to lis sd, ewes and wethers 9s 3d to 10s 7d, dry ewes 5s ld, and ewes and lambs at 7s all counted, lambs 83 2d to 9s lid. Pigs. — Pull supply, although the bid- * ding was not quite so keen. There was a __ diminution in prices from 4Jd to 4}d per lb for fats. Per head baconers brought ~< from 45s to 63s 6d, porkers 26s to 40s, a stores, 2o3 to 30a 6d, weaners 13s 6dto S 15s, and suckers 10s to lis 6d. Entries for the day comprised 11,394 sheep, 441 cattle, and 310 pigs.
