VARIOUS CANDIDATES.
(BY TELEGRAPH.) Auckland, Friday. Mr Gardner has retired from the Woiremata contest, leaving Messrs Monk and Jackman to fight it oat, Wanganui, Friday, Mr A. D. Willis, the sitting member, opened the election campaign last (Thursday) night. He supported the present Administration, and asserted that they were carrying oat as nearly as possible the policy of the late Mr John BiUlance. He uefended Mr J. G. Ward, whom, he said, had been oompletely exonerated, and ex-, pteaeed a hope to Bee him back in hiß place before long, Mr Wills was acoorded a vote of thanks and coutiilenct. Wellington, Friday. Messrs G, Fiaher and C. Wilson, Government candidates, addressed a meeting at the Opera House to-night. Both obtained votes of thanks and confidence, the former especially meeting with an excellent reception. CnRisTCHURCH, Friday. Mr H. G. Ell, a candidate for Chrlatohnroh, addressed a meeting at Sydenham to-night. He declared himself a Liberal, and wbnld give support to the Govern* ment on ail Liberal measnrea, A vote of thanks wao earrled. Timaru, Friday. Mr C. N, Macintosh, a yoang native of Timarn, formerly local manager of the Colonial Bank bsre, will probably contest Timarn as an Independent Liberal.
