(FROM OUR OWK COEEESPONDENT). June 12, 1895. The results of the late ball in aid of tbe County Hospital waa as follows:— Sale of tickets £61 10*, profit to fund £49 18a 6d. The Ormondvllle friendly societies also forwarded £11 03 6J for the new wing fund. Some of the Makaretu people have discovered that a recent chairman of the school committee waa illegally so, not being a householder under the meaning ot the Act, nor the guardian of any children. The secretary of the Connty Hospital reports as follows for the week :—Thirtyla patients, Including five females ; five males and two females ; two males and one female discharged ; no deaths. Tbe Hospital Board met this afternoon in the Board room. Present — Messrs W. White (chairman), G. Hunter, A. M'Hardy, A. E, Jail, A. Scrimgeour, C. L. Mackersey, and Brown. — Mr Slddelle, as secretary to the combined friendly societies at Ormondvllle, forwarded a cheque for £11 Oa 6d, proceeds of a demonstration in aid of the hospital, Letter of thanks to be forwarded. — Mr Handyalde complained ot not receiving notice of last meeting in time to be present. Clerk expfained that he had been absent on leave at the time, but always gave as early notice as possible. Clerk to write .and explaiD. — Dr. Todd forwarded a claim for £2 2s for attending a case ab the hospital at the request of Dr, Reod. Ordered to be paid The clerk of the works was called lv. Claims wore sent in by Messra Hastings, Exeter, and Redding, sub-contractors, requesting the Board to pay them the amouut due to them, which was lv dispute between them and the contractor, in accordance with tbe Workmen's Lien Acf. In reply to the chairman thn clerk aald the original price wns £759, alterations £118 183 63, total £877 18s 6d ; against tbis had been paid £720. Extras came to £70 ; £26 93 was claimed by the con.tractor, which the clerk declined to certify for on various grounds. It was ascertained that a balance was due to the contractcr in a month, £255 18s 4d, It was decided, on the motion oi Messrs Hunter and M'Hardy, to hold over the balance, and if the dispute between between the contractor and his men is not settled in a montb the money to be paid into Court, the chairman to take legal advlee when necessary. The contractor was called in and informed of tbe Board's determination, and the disputed items were gono into Pending n reference to Mr Lamb, the settlement of disputes was left in the hands of a sub-committee, consisting of Messrs Jail, Scrlmeeour, and the chairman. The clerk of works to pass the work at once as from Ist Jane; the contractor to be allowed to copy the accounts of the subcontractor. The case of an incurable patient who has no means was to be referred t j the chief almoner for the district; SO loads gravel to be procured and spread oa the pathways in the gronnda — The pay-sheet, totalling £210 3s 9d, was passed for uayment. Mr Jull thought an item of £55 for furniture, &c, ought to have been tendered for, und except one item of £4 the balance had not been authorised by tbe committee. — It was resolved that no goods amounting to more tban £5 be procaied without per. mission of the Board. The secretary was instructed to make better terms for digglng graves.

General nccannt : April £386 2s Gd, May £231 3a 3d, Jnne £104 17a 2d, total £722 3s 3d.— Notice was given of an intention to Btilke a rate of Id In the £1 over tbe ridings of Eperurlma, Oero, Patargata, and Tamumu, und i£i over Porangahau riding, payable on Ist December.— The Colonial Secretary forwarded 8s 6d, being half cost of difference in cost of laßt licensing elections.
