PORT AHURIRI VOLUNTEER FIRE BRIGADE.
,-Vi ANNUAL COMPETITIONS. 7 The Port Ahmiri Fire Brigade held a series of competitions on the vacant section opposite the brigade station, near Ball's timber yard', yesterday. There was a very large attendance of the general public, and keen interest was evinced in the proceedings, The prizes, which were very valuable, were presented by the leading business mea of Napier and the Port. The following were the results : — Single-handed Eogine Competition. — F. Koae, 44see, 1 ; L. La Broom, 47seo, 2 ; H. Brown, 47« ec, 3. Thirteen com- i peted. MaDnal Engine (dry) ; two men,— Riddle and Rolls, 37 4 sth sec, 1 ; Franklin and M'Coomb, 43 4-stb sec, 2 ; Brown and Gilding, 45Jiec, 3. Six pairs competed. Mr Miller's Event ; rnn 50 feet of wet hose and hydrant to plug, fix hydrant and and ran ont length, fix union to length, add two 508 to tmioi;, rnn oat length, fix branches, return to hydrant and tnrn on water ; open to those who hove not before , competed. — Messenger J. Riddle, 2mlu , 3 4 soh sec, 1 ; Fireman Healey, 2tnin 1 9Jseo, 2 ; A. Kennedy, 2min 10 l-sth sec, j 3. Seven competed. Hoso and Hydrant, for two men. — Ftanklia and M'Coomb, 25 l-sth sec, 1 ; Kiddle and Rolln, 26 3-sth Bee, 2 ; Brown and Gelding, 27 l-suh sec, 3. Six pairs competed. Manual Knglno, for five men.—Franklin's team, 52seo, 1 ; La Broom's team, Imin 26iec, 2. The only competitor?. Hose Reel Flat Competition, five men. —Franklin's team, 77* ec, 1 ; La Broom's team, 90sec, 2, The only competitors. Hose-reel and Ladder Competition, five men. — Franklin's team, 40seo, 1 ; La Broom's team, 55Jsac, 2. Only two teams competed. An open event similar to Mi Miller's is not yet completed. The best time done up to the present is W. Kiddle 89sec, and F. Rolls 102'ec. This event will be ran off this morning at 6 o'clock, A social wbb held afterwards, at which about 40 conples attended, and the prizes were presented to the winners by Inspector Wilkle, who also presented a long service to Mr K. Lynam and two years' service bars to 11 other firemen.
