THE VALIDATION COURT MUDDLE.
WELLINGTON, Tuesday. The Government persist that as Mr Jackson was long ago appointed Registrar Judge Barton Is only causing needless flelay and expense by raising fine points. Having accepted tbe advice of the law officers, the Government will accept the responsibility, and annonnce that it will not be dictated to hy the Judge, especially as they consider that Judge Barton is merely striving to get a separate staff for his Court regardless of expense. Gisborne, Tuesday. The Hon. James Carroll wishes it to he stated that in connection with tbe present Validation Court difficulty the question of his resignation has never been mentioned. The first he had heard of it was the statement in the Press. At the Validation Court thia morning business was commenced in real earnest. Mr W. L. Rees, on behalf and at the request of other members of the profession, paid a warm compliment to the Bench, and assured the Court of tbeir assistance. His Honor, replying, spoke feelingly of his regard of the compliment paid to him in tho address and by learned counsel oppearinc before him robed. The Paramato case, affecting tbe title to 5176 acres of land, was then called on, Mr George Hutchison, and with him Messrs De Lantonr and Gully, nppeared for the applicant, Bank of New Zealand Estates Company. Messrs Theo. Cooper, H. J. Finn, aDd Lysnar appeared for the objectors, and Mr Kees to wntch the interests of the Hon. James Carroll and Wi Pere, M.H.l{.'s.
