CYCLING NOTES.
(By " Zbalandia.")
My note-, in last Monday's issue appeared under the norn de plvme of " Wandorcr." Tbis was an error on my part, due to a slip of the pen. However, I sball not be a " wanderer " again, for I have no intention of changing my present norn de plume of " Zealandla," I am Informed that good entries have been received for the Wanderers' sports next montb, and it only requires a careful adjustment of tbe handicaps to make the events most interesting. Mr Ashton has a hard task before him, aa there are several "strange faces" for bim to deal with tbis time, but I think he Is equal to it. I am told that tho Auckland entiles did not come to hand yesterday, but from privote information received a few days nt*o it is almost certain that two riders from that city ■will pnt in an appearance, and It is expected the papers will have arrived by the Waihoro's mall yesterday morning. The run to Stortford Lodge yesterday was a most enjoyable ono. There was a good muster. Making a start frora Cliveequate, and going out by the Beach-road, the Lodge was reiched iv good time. The site of the proposed track was looked at, and all agreed that a more enticing spot would be hard to find anywhere in the colonies. I am glad to be able to Inform my readers that Mr Stock hns decided to lay down p. track which will certainly be the best ln the c lloaie*-, and should be tbe means of making Hawk-'s Biy tbe principal district in New Zealand for thi- most popular sport, A start was made for home shoitty after 3 o'clock, via Omahu town being reached in good time. The road all the way round i. ln splendid order, Mr R, P. Paterson has decided not to tackle the 100 miles record, I hear that another prominent rider will probably •' have a go " at it later in tbo season. The entries for the race at the Park in connection with the Friendly Society's gathering next Wednesday are not so large as I expected them to be Still those who will start are sure to mnke a most inte resting race oi ib. I understand tbat the sooKiy offioials are having the track well roI-KI, and the " going" Is expected to be In pretty fair order if the weather keeps fine. I Bball try and " spot " the winners as aoon as I see the handicaps, and will give my readers my " certainty " in Wednesday's Issue, Several oi our wheelmen intend to pnt in the coming holiday season touring. Messrs Newman, Jourdain, Trigg, Bisaell (2), Smith, and Alley will journey to Feildlng, to take part in bicycle events on Boxing Day. They are going to ride their machine* throngh. Others are going to "do" the country neater home. I hope these tourists will have fine weather tor their trip, If they are so fortunate they will find tbat a trip round the .country on a two-wheeler is one of the most enjoyable ways of spending a holiday. Those riders wbo are in training are either unfortunate in having to contend againßt so much bad weather. Track work has been out of the question, and riders have had to content themselves with a spin on tbe road " between the showers," It is to be hoped the weather his sottled at last, so as to allow our fliers to put in some good work on the oval lor the next fortnight, They have a hard job before them on the 9th of next month, and it will be necessary for them to be in good form if tbey intend to go right through the " bill of fore."
