BOWING.

The preliminary beats of tha Napier Rowing Club's trial fonr-, to which race Mr Gooeh'a medals were allotted, were rowed on the inner harbor course on Batarday afternoon. From an eveu start Hughes on tbe outsile was the first to show in front, butttose quickly made up tbe lost d'stance, and tbe crews raced together through the gut, The boats kept well together till half way, where Rose gradually drew away and established a lead of a length, which derpite Hughes' efforts he increased to three lengths, winning a good nice by that distance. Shaw (strokf ), Hlslop (3), Ferguson (2), and Smith (bow) then rowed Mountfort Stroke), Bailey (3), Jourdain (2), and ;'lntosb (bow), Mountfort had the outside water, and waa the first to get away, but Shaw quickly made up the leeway and led through the gut by a length, ard drawing away every stroke, soon held a good lead, eventually winning easily by about four lengths. Rose's crew then met Aitken (stroke), Hoben (3), Bell (2), and Mcholls (bow). This was a very easy thing for Rose. Aitken got the best of the atart, but Rose soon caught him and went away, ultimately winning by eight lengths, Tho final heat will be rowed between Rose and Shaw tbis afternoon in the Inner harbor. The race will start at 6 o'clock,
