FOOTBALL.

The annual eeueral meeting of tinPirates Football Club was held in Ilii Masonic Hotel on Saturday evening. A large number of members attended, and from the proceedings the friends of the eknll and crossbones need nob deppiii of eoeing this popular club recover their lost laurels. Mr VV. S. Taylor was in the chair, in the absence of the club's favorite and captain, Mr T. Morrison, and peueral regret was expressed thud neither lie nor Mr C. M. Whittington would be with f.bern this season. The secretary, Mr Cowell, read the report and balance - aheet, which were adopted. .The election of patrons, committee, officers, and delegates resulted as followß : —President, Mr T. Sidey; vice-presi-dents, Messrs F. Moeller, V. M. Whitting. ton, S. Crowther, John Beatson, and John Sinclair ; captain, Mr Harry Swan ; vice- captain, Mr J. O'Connell; committee, Messrs A, Malcom, H. Crowley, W. S. Taylor, A. Vales, and J. Cowell ; delegates to the Hawko's Bay iiugby Union, Messrs H. Swnn, and E. Schwabe ; delegate to the Sports Protection Society, Mr W, S, Taylor. The secretary, Mr Cowell, resigned his po.sltton on accnuDD of want of time, n decision that cansed general regret, as ho had fulfilled the office for seven years without a growl. Mr E. Sohwabo was unanimously elected to fill the vacant position. Over twenty new members were elected, and it* was decided to open the club's season on Saturday, the 22ad instant), with a scratch match against the Caledonian club on the Recreation Ground. Among the new members are several players from other towns who are setbled here, bo that the club will have an addition to their already good material with which to battle for the honor of their fhg.
