[PER PRESS ABSOCIATION.^COPYRIGHT.] (Reoelred March 9, 10 p.m.) Melbourne, Thursday. The (bird day's racing of the Victoria Racing Club's autntnn meeting? took place to-day. Though the sky was overcast and threatening the weather remained fine , and there was a very fair attendance for an off day. The running track was hard as adamant, and first-class times were recorded, Captaia Webb displayed excellent form In the Hurdles, but he was kept in the rear fora mile and a half, and though finishing very strongly he could not catch the leaders. Projectile made perfect hacks of the field in the Nursery Handicap, quite replacing himself in public estimation as a promising Derby colt. Autonomy put his detractors to scorn by coveting the last mile and a half n the Autumn Handicap in 2min 36sec. The last six furlongs were done in Imin lßsec. Close students of the Australian Cap running backed Camoola for the Champion Stakes, feeling satisfied that the hard dry going would suit him much better, and the result proved the correctness of their judgment, the last mile being traversed in Imin 43sec, Camoola making a waiting race of it throughout. When the flag fell Culloden was first to get away, but being steadied Portland took up the running, and in the straight alongside the river cleared out 15 lengths from the field. At the abbatoirs his stable companion Portsea took second place, Camoola bsing last. Turning Into the straight the first time the positions were much the same, save that Portland had come back within half-a-dozen lengths of Portsea, while The Admiral had run Into fourth place behind Culloden. Six furlongs from home Cnlloden was in the van, bat n furlong further The Admiral put in his claim, Camoola at the same time making his first attempt to get on anything like terms with the leaders. The Admiral was first into the straight, Culloden being nearly abreast of him, close on whose heels came Portsea and Camoola, Mr Gollan's horse closed with the leader at the distance - post, but while they were disputing supremacy Huxley brought Camoola up on the outside, and running with great determination the Derby winner dashed past the winning post a length in advance of Culloden. Portaea, who came up very fast in the last few strides, beat The Admiral for third place, Duerow, Idolator, and Portland following in the order named. Time, smin 39see. Graduate, 9st slb (Jones) 1 Waratah, 7st 51b (Day) 2 J ersey, 7st 3lb (Fraser) 3 — Nine horses started. Betting— 6 to 4 agst Veno, 4 to 1 Willyama, 7 to 1 Jersey, 10 to 1 Graduate. Won easily by a length and threequarters, Time, Imin 45sec. PEEE HANDICAP, Of 400 soys ; 1 J mile.
