PORT AHURIRI.
Tbe annual meeting ot the householders of tbe Port school district was held last evening. There was a large attendance, , and the. chairman of the outgoing committee, Mr B. Puflett, was voted to the chair, and gave an address reviewing the year's work of the school, and explaining . the procedure to be adopted at tne elec- ._/ ' tlon of the new committee. He then called on the secretory, Mr M'Carthy, to read the committee's report. The report was a very full and exhaustive one. showing the progress made in tbe school during tbe past year, both in efficiency i.lflr- and numbers, and paid a tribute to the #•? assistance given by Constable Harvey in securing the attendance the committee were proud of. . Tbe number now on tbe roll was 347, and tbe average attendance for the past year was 310. Tbe report concluded by stating that tbe committee were proud of tbe school's progress, and .fiat, all throngs Bern animated solely By & desire for tbe school's welfare. Mr Galloway proposed a vote of thanks to the old committee, which was carried. The mee'ing then proceeded to the election of the new committee. Tbe Chairman, in response to repeated expressions of a desire that he should consent to be nominated, stated that he bad definately decided to retire. The newly elected committee after*wards met, when Mr M'Carthy was Chosen chairman, Mr Saunders secretary, and the seoond Friday in the month was fixed to be the regular night of meeting. Messrs O. Krogh and R. C. Laws were appointed visiting committee for the ensuing montb, and the committee then adjourned.
