SCHOOL COMMITTEE ELECTIONS.

NAPIER. The meeting of householders- tn the Napier district was held lest night in the Theatre Royal. The attendance was only moderate as compared with former years, and bnt little interest semed to be token in the proceedings. On the motion of Mr J, G. Gilberd, seconded by Mr T. Sidey, the chair was taken by Mr F, Button. Mr Sntton explained tbat Mr G. H. _- Swan, M.H.R,, who otherwise would have occupied the chair, was necessarily absent in consequence of a prior engagement. The secretary read the following report:— Your committee bave pleasure in reporting that the i schools under their obarge are now In exoeUent working order. The Inspector's examination showed some of the higher standards to bo not so far advanoed as in previoue years, but the lowor standards, the Infant department* and the Hastings-street echool passed with creditable preOolenoy. Borne very important alterations bave been reoently made fn the teaching staff Mr T. Morgan has been appointed aa head-master ' to flu tike vacancy oaused by the resignation Of Mr A. B. Thimron ; Mr Hislop bas been appointed third master In the pVmo ot Mr Heslio, who waa compelled to rotlre through Moknese, wbich, tho oommlttoe regrets to say, has since ended fatally; Air Oaugblcy was appointed fourth master, being an additional teaoher, to wbloh this district was entitled is oonsequonoe of the increacedat* tendaaoer ' During the year Mr 8. Mr Edwards, in seconding tbe adoption of the report, referred to tbe imptorance of technical education, and hoped tbe incoming committee would make a point of that, The report and balance-sheet were ' adopted. . Bourgeois .. ... 115 The Chairman declared tbe first nine duly elected. The new eommitttee subsequently met and elected Mr M. Hebden chairman, Mr W. Hodgson secretary, and fixed upon the first Tuesday in each month as the day of meeting. Messrs Bear and Nellaon were appointed visitors for tbe month, and the committee adjourned.
