AN ADVENTUROUS CAREEE

New has been received of the death, at the age of eighty-five, of the .Rev. George EL Nobbs, who for fifty-six years acted as pastor and chaplain to the Pitcairn and Norfolk Islanders. The reverend gentleman in his early life had a romantic and adventurous career. As a sailor he took part in tho South American wars during the early part of the century, and while serving under the famous Lord Cochrane gained the commendation of that distinguished naval commander for many of the exploits he performed. Often shipwrecked, and sometimes taken captive, he had many narrow escapes. At the request of his mother he left the sea and wont to Pitcairn, where, settling amonc the natives, and becoming their teacher, he married a granddaughter of Lieutenant Christian, of the Bounty, and accompanied tho community in its migration to Tahiti, and subsequently to Norfolk Island. Borne years after he first went to Pitcairn, Admiral Fairfax Moresby visited the island and procured him a passage to England, where he was ordained by Dr Blomfield. Bishop of London. He then went back, and since that time faithfully labored in that distant land, and gained the love and esteem of all the islanders, by whom hia death is deeply regretted.
