On his passage through America to assume the Governorship of New South Wales, Lord Loftus was interviewed in New York by reporters. There was a large quantity of oil on the premises, and several ships alongside were loading. The flames spread rapidly, and the burning oil flowed everywhere, five ships were burned. The oil spread^ on the river, blazing fiercely. The loss is 50,000 dollars,
