m L , • ™ • pORT Comers, May 23. The ship Electra arrived last night, after 130 days' passage from London. She encountered terrific gales on leaving the English Channel, and lost her spare anchor and sails. While crossing the Southern Ocean she met with a terrific gale from S. W. to JT.W. The sea broke on board, filling the decks. It stove in the bulwarks, and did other damage. Several sails were blown away. She brings 8 passengers and 800 tons cargo, ' m May 26. The Taupo sailed North to-day. Passenger for Napier— Mr Blair. Wellington, May 25. The City of Sydney, with the London mails to April 25, left San Francisco on May 13— the contract date. The Australia, with the last outward mail from here, arrived at San Francisco, on the 22nd instant— one day in advance of the contract date. The outward San Francisco mail, despatched by the Rotorua this afternoon, consisted of 4658 letters, 3970 book packets, and 3544 newspapers, for Landon; 325 letters, 55 book packets, and 277 newspapers for America. If is stated that Captain Wheeler, will resign the command of the Hawea in favor of Captain Kennedy, who will hand over the Taiaroa to Captain Wheeler. The cause qf the change is that, as Captain Wheeler's family reside in Nelson, and the Hawea's usual route being via the East Coast, Capt. Wheeler rarely has an opportunity of seeing them.
