THE HOSPITAL COMMITTEE AND MR ORMOND.

Sin,— l feel somewhat concerned for the dignity of Hawke's Bay, when a public body in it should stoop to the acceptance of advice from Mr Ormond in matters of which he is likely to know as little as the least intelligent members of the Hospital Committee. It is time now that Hawke's Bay released itself from the position of being the sport of a short-sighted man like the late Superintendent. We had enough ( of him, and now that we are clear of him, let us not trouble ourselves about what he ljiay think of our hospital management or anything else. * * ■* There are men of more ability in the Hospital Committee than he, and though he was fortunate in gaining a footing at a time when there was little or no competition, it is no reason why we should still further injure the province by talcing his advice. We. saw a specimen of his ability in the financial negotiations of the Harbor Board, likewise in his complete ignorance of 1 the Counties Act ; so we ought to leave an implicit reliance on his judgment to men whose utterances seem like the outcome of second childhood, such as Mr Wason. Let tho Hospital Committee act like men, on their own judgment. — I am, etc., A Resident. [We have taken out some remarks in our correspondent's letter which, we conceive, transgress the bounds of permissible criticism. We need not say that wo do not agree with him in his estimate of Mr Ormond's abilities. If there are men of more ability than he on the Hospital Committee, avo should like to know who they are.— Ed.
