Melbourne, Sunday, Dec. 4. Fine harvest weather has set in, with every prospect of its continuing. Farmers being busy, very little wheat is coming in, and prices have advanced to ss. 9d. Flour simultaneously has advanced to £13, but only small orders are being executed at that. The hay crop is abundant. Feeding grains are unaltered. Sugars maintain their prices. The steamship Great Britain arrived yesterday from Liverpool, 58 days out. Several bets were made in Collins street on Saturday that she would be telegraphed yesterday. The French man of war Belliquese sailed on Saturday for New Caledonia. The Onieo has been a trip to and from Newcastle. She leaves for Hokitika on the 10th. On Saturday the bar gave a dinner at Scott's to Mr. Fellowes. He sails by the mail to-morrow. Dobson has been elected by a small majority over Harveson, shewing that M'Cullocbism is waning. G. P. Smith has openly seceded from supporting M'Cullocb, and prophesied the downfall of his government. The Publican's Amendment Act is being rapidly passed through committee. The strike of navies at Beechworlh railway continues, and assumes threatening proportions. The men seem determined to keep it up till the mail leaves. The Supreme Conrt has decided that Hugh Glass's deed of assignment is valid. Bowman, ex-member for Maryborough, has been acquitted, and has commenced an action for malicious prosecution. Cotterei closes, on Wednesday, a successful engagement at the Polytechnic, and will then make a tour through the provinces. Croydon won the Ballarat Cup and the Handicap ; Monk won the steeple chase. Sydney. The Government has sustained a defeat on the Stamp Duties Bill, and Mr. Cowper has accepted office as agent for tbe colony in London, leaving the Ministry to be reconstructed, with Mr. Robertson as premier. Tasmania. Mr. Charles Gaunt, merchant, of Launceston, has been arrested in Hobart Town on a warrant charging him with embezzlement in the year 1868, when employed as a clerk by Messrs. Fych and Co. The amount is stated at £300. Gaunt failed latterly for £30,000. Brisbane. Governor Blackall*is dangerously ill. Adelaide. Mr. Hutton, Under Treasurer, has died from the effects of pelf-inflicted wounds.
