Correspondence.

The Editor does not hold himself responsible for opinions expressed by correspondents. Sir — In common with many others, I have remarked that the case "Topping v. Chaundv," reported in your paper of the 6th inst., shows pretty plainly that the Resident Magistrate's Court is not the place to recover debts. Surely there must be some mistake ! 1 £3 135., an undisputed debt, and four and seven months to pay it in ! There is not much fear of His Worship being troubled with many debt cases on these terms. I have heard of very peculiar decisions given by the same gentleman, who, by the way, your contemporary often calls the worthy Magistrate. It is generally understood that this gentleman receives a much higher salary than his predecessor; if so, there ha 3 been a bad bargain, and, I think, great satisfaction would be felt if the Government would restore the department to the same state of efficiency as it was before the new Resident Magistrate arrived. Yours, &c, Napier, Dec. 10. Tradesman.
