TARANAKI.
Nelson, October 5. By the Airedale we have late dates from Taranaki, but the news is limited. As Titokowaru passed through Opunake, on his way inland, his followers robbed tbe flax mills of a number of small articles. They also stole 6*o sheep, tbe property of tbe friendly natives, and refused to return them. The friendlies went in pursuit, but were driven back by an armed force of rebels. The friendlies were very angry, and held a meeting at which it was said tbat the case was one for fighting. The Europeans interfered to prevent tbeir following to fight Tito. Tbe latter, however, ultimately left tbe sheep, except ten which had been eaten, being afraid of the friendlies fighting him. Flax mills in various parts of the province are working. A smart shock of earthquake was felt in Taranaki at 2.20 p.m. on Monday. It lasted about 15 seconds. Goods were knocked off shelves by ifc, and some I chimneys were moved.
