NEW POSTAL HARDSHIPS.
The Post office authorities announced very suddenly a resolution to make 4oz the maximum weight of all single newspapers sent abroad or to the colonies, and to reduce the size of parcels to about a fourth of the present limit. The effect of this regulation will be to double the cost of postage on The Times, Illustrated London Neivs, Engineer, and many other papers. The proprietors of the European Mail complain that the change will mulct them in an additional charge of £175 per month, or upwards of £2000 a year, without the power of recouping themselves one penny. Other newspaper proprietors bewail similar losses. It is understood that a deputation representing the leading interests in the colonial trade is about to be formed, to wait upon the Marquis of Hartington in relation to this measure.
